Consideraciones sobre el Cretácico inferior de la zona Jumilla-Yecla

Abstract

Se estudia el Cretácico inferior y sus relaciones con el superior y con el Jurásico en una zona alargada en sentido SO-NE, que abarca aproximadamente desde Socovos hasta Villena, con una anchura variable delimitada, en general, por fracturas y que se denomina «Zona Jumilla-Yecla». Estas fracturas presentan dos direcciones dominantes: SO-NE y NO-SE, siendo las primeras reflejo de antiguos accidentes paleogeográficos, mientras que las segundas compartimentan la zona posteriormente a la sedimentación. Las principales características estratigráficas de este área son: presencia de materiales de edad Portiandiense, Neocomiense marino, Barremiense y Albense s.l. en facies terrígenas continentales, separados por un Aptense marino, y aumento de espesor del Cretácico superior respecto al de las zonas septentrionales. Este área se sitúa paleogeográficamente entre el Prebético interno y la plataforma de Albacete, no observándose para el Cretácico inferior tránsito gradual con dichas zonas limítrofes según la posición relativa que ocupan actualmente. Por último, cabe destacar la abundancia de terrígenos en el Barremíense y Albense frente a los carbonatos depositados tanto en la zona septentrional como meridional, así como un aumento de los caracteres marinos hacia el E durante el Cretácico inferior.

The Lower Cretaceous and its relation with the Upper and the Jurassic are being studied in an elongated zone in a SW-NE direction, called the «Jumilla-Yecla Zone», extending approximately from Socovos to Villena and varying in width which is, generally, bordered by fractures. These fractures present two main directions: SW-NE and NW-SE. The first reflect the oíd paleogeographic accidents> while the second divide the zone after sedimentation. The main stratigraphic characteristics of thís area are: the presence of materials from the Portíandian, the marine Neocomian, the Barremian and Albian s.l. in continental terrigenous facies separated by a marine Aptian, and an increase in thickness of the Upper Cretaceous as regards the northern zones. Paleogeographically speaking, this area is situated between the inner Pre-Betie and the Albacete platform. For the Lower Cretaceous no gradual transition is observed with said bordering zones, according to the relative position they now occupy. Finally, the abundance of terrigenous material in the Barremian and Albian is considerable in comparison with the carbonates deposited in the northern as well as in the southern zones. The increase in the marine characters in an eastern direction during the Lower Cretaceous is also noteworthy.
