El cine cómico estadounidense en tiempos de la Gran Depresión: un estudio de la screwball comedy

Abstract

El objeto de análisis de este documento es la screwball comedy, el tipo de comedia más popular en el cine norteamericano durante el periodo de la Gran Depresión. El principal propósito de la investigación es determinar las claves fundamentales que condicionaron y caracterizaron a este grupo de comedias. Para ello, se ha combinado la revisión bibliográfica con el visionado de varias películas, tres de las cuales han sido sometidas a un análisis de contenido. Siguiendo esta metodología, se han estudiado diferentes aspectos, como el contexto histórico de esta variante cómica, sus rasgos más identificativos y los directores más destacados, tanto del propio estilo screwball como de la comedia anterior y posterior a este. Finalmente, las conclusiones dan cuenta de la gran conexión de estas películas con la sociedad estadounidense de los años 30 y 40 y evidencian sus influencias recibidas de la comedia muda y las aportadas al género en las siguientes décadas.

The object of analysis in this document is the screwball comedy, the most popular comedy type in American cinema during the Great Depression period. The main purpose of the research is to determine the fundamental keys that conditioned and characterized this group of comedies. For this, the bibliographic review has been combined with the viewing of several films, three of which have been subjected to content analysis. Following this methodology, different aspects have been studied, such as the historical context of this comic variant, its most identifying features and the most prominent directors, both of screwball style itself and of the comedy before and after it. Finally, the conclusions indicate the great connection of these films with the American society of the 30s and 40s and show the influences received from the silent comedy and those contributed to the genre in the following decades.
