Abstract

Ostracods are reported for the first time in the Pliensbachian carbonate sequence in the Cordillera Ibérica region, northeastern Spain. Seventeen species are recognized, of which 7 are illustrated for the first time in Spain. The ostracod fauna, as a whole, is very similar to those in the European Epicontinental Sea and show proper characteristics of warm water platform deposits. The Early Pliensbachian ostracod assemblages show substantial differences from Late Pliensbachian assemblages. The biostratigraphical and palaeogeographical results are discussed with reference to other selected areas worldwide.
