Abstract
The doctoral thesis, entitled "Literary Topography in Doña Perfecta, by Benito PérezGaldós, and in Dream in the Red Pavilion, by Cao Xueqin, from the comparative study and the media", focuses on the dialogue between East and West, not alien to the most pressing concerns of our time, from the study of Comparatism: supranational, translinguistic and multicultural understanding based on two works and authors that reflect the dialogue of a complex and subtle hybridisation at the intersection of two different eras and two different cultures. And all this centred on the comparative study of literary space, an abstraction derived from the realities in which we move; one of the triangular elements in the novel. To this end, I have first introduced this research by outlining not only its objectives, but also the theoretical framework based on the comparative study: analysis of the diachronic perspective of comparative literature, its crisis and the new paradigm, reflecting its latest trends. From here I have made a first approach to literary topography, defining it initially as the representative, linguistic framework in which the characters, with their interests and conflicts, are installed; a framework that reflects three outstanding functions: referential, narrative and symbolic...
