Abstract
Resumen. La historia del descubrimiento y posterior conquista del Nuevo Mundo por España ha venido concitando a lo largo de los años el mas vivo interés de los historiadores, que nunca estuvo exento de polémica, tanto por lo que se dice como por lo que no se ha dicho, dividiendo seriamente a la mejor doctrina historiográfica. Semejante grado de discrepancia entre los historiadores adquiere una transcen-dencia mayor si cabe ahora, por el papel que el estudio de la historia ha cobrado recientemente para la comprensión de todo lo relacionado con las ciencias sociales. Un autentico “Giro hacia la historia” protagonizado por autores de la auctoritas de Mauricio Fioravanti, John Pocock, Antonio Hespanha, Jean-Louis Alperin, o Michael Stolleis, que en el siglo XXI han hecho del Ayer clave de bóveda del entendimiento del presente. Algo a lo que obviamente no puede ni debe escapar ningún estudio de historia de America que se precie, y mucho menos en una investigación doctoral como esta...
The history of the discovery and subsequent conquest of the New World by Spain has aroused over the years the keenest interest among historians, never without controversy, as much for what has as for what has not been said, provoking a pro-found schism in the best historiographical doctrine.Such a degree of discrepancy among historians assumes even greater significance in the present day owing to the role that the study of history has recently acquired for the understanding of anything related to the social sciences. An authentic "Turn towards History" starring authors of the auctoritas of Mauricio Fioravanti, John Po-cock, Antonio Hespanha, Jean-Louis Halpérin or Michael Stolleis, who in the twenty-first century have made Yesterday the key to the understanding of the present, a phenomenon which - clearly - no self-respecting study of the history of the Ameri-can continent can allow itself to ignore, much less a piece of doctoral research such as this...
