Abstract
El cáncer de mama es una enfermedad inesperada, que afecta a una de cada ocho mujeres en España en algún momento de su vida (AECC, 2019). Se estima que en el 2021 habrá en España 33.375 nuevos casos (SEOM, 2021). Su diagnóstico puede desatar una serie de emociones como estrés, desasosiego, pérdida de confianza en una misma, que con frecuencia las pacientes no saben cómo gestionar. En muchos casos manifiestan sentirse perdidas, muy solas, con miedo a morir y buscan herramientas que les ayuden a sentirse capacitadas para asumir su situación, tomar decisiones, resolver problemas y recuperar el control de su vida, aspectos que conforman la definición de un paciente empoderado. El coaching es una disciplina de acompañamiento a la persona orientada a la consecución de una transformación deseada. Entre el coach, que promueve un proceso de toma de conciencia, reflexión y autoconocimiento, y el destinatario, que adopta un papel activo libre en la toma y ejecución de decisiones, así como una conducta de autogestión a lo largo del proceso, se establece una relación entre iguales que busca el empoderamiento de la persona, entendido como su capacidad para poder elegir y tomar las riendas de su vida...
Breast cancer is an unexpected disease that affects one in eight women in Spain (AECC, 2019). It is estimated that in 2021 there will be 33,375 new cases in Spain (SEOM, 2021). The diagnosis of cancer can unleash many emotions, including stress, anxiety and loss of selfconfidence, that patients often do not know how to manage, leaving them “feeling lost”, lonely and “afraid of dying”. Hence, the need for tools to help them take charge of their situation, make decisions, solve problems and take back control of their lives, all of which are aspects that define an empowered patient. Coaching is a discipline that seeks to help the individual achieve the desired transformation. Between the coach, who fosters a process of awareness, reflection and self-knowledge, and the coachee, who freely adopts an active role in making and implementing decisions, as well as exercising self-management throughout the coaching process, a relationship between peers is established that strives for personal empowerment...
