Unidades registraticas, biocronología y geocronología

Abstract

En este artículo se expone un nuevo sistema de clasificación biocronológica, que permite distinguir entre las referencias a entidades biológicas del pasado y las evidencias del registro fósil. Los conceptos tratados sirven para establecer unidades de clasificación biocronológica, equivalente a las del sistema bioestratigráfico tradicionalmente utilizado en Paleontología y en Estratígrafia; dichas unidades blocronologicas están constituidas por individuos evidenciados o inferidos a partir de componentes del registro fósil, no a partir del registro estratigráfico. Este sistema de clasificación posibilita la comparación de unidades biocronológicas establecidas en distintas regiones de una o más cuencas sedimentarias, al margen de que estén representadas o no las correspondientes unidades bioestratigráficas o cronoestratigráficas. [ABSTRACT] A new system of biochronological classification allowing the distinction between evidence coming from the fossil record and references to biological entities of the past is here proposed. The exposed concepts are useful to establish units of biochronological classification, which are equivalent to those of the biostratigraphical system of current use in Paleontology and Stratigraphy. Such biochronological units are forrned by elements inferred from the fossil record, rather than from the stratigraphical record. The resulting classification system makes possible the comparison of biochronological units established in separate regions in one or several sedimentary basins, regardless of the fact that the corresponding biostratigraphical or chronostratigraphical units migth or migth not be represented there.
