La imagen del judío en la miniatura hispánica bajomedieval : Coronas de Castilla y Aragón en los siglos XIII y XIV

Abstract

Esta tesis doctoral, titulada “La imagen del judío en la miniatura hispánica bajomedieval: Coronas de Castilla y Aragón en los siglos XIII y XIV”, indaga en la imagen del judío, entendida como reflejo de la concepción que la Cristiandad se ha formado de esta minoría. Aborda el estudio de la visión que ofrecen las iluminaciones hispánicas de los siglos XIII y XIV, especialmente en las Coronas de Castilla y Aragón, de este grupo humano. La historiografía artística relativa a la miniatura hispánica carece por el momento de un estudio monográfico referido a los judíos. Ciertos códices iluminados ofrecen un amplio repertorio de imágenes que posibilitan un estudio pormenorizado y, al tiempo, más amplio y de conjunto, de la imagen del hebreo a través del análisis de todo el corpus que atesoran. En función del número de judíos representados, sus características e interés iconográfico, hemos seleccionado veinticinco manuscritos de la Corona de Aragón, trece de la Corona de Castilla y cinco sefardíes, cuya inclusión se justifica por el enriquecimiento que el análisis de sus miniaturas supone para el estudio iconográfico comparativo con las cristianas...

This doctoral thesis, entitled "The image of the Jew in the late medieval Hispanic miniature: Crowns of Castile and Aragon in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries", investigates the image of the Jew, understood as a reflection of the conception that Christianity has formed of this minority. It deals with the study of the vision of this human group, offered by the Hispanic illuminations of the 13th and 14th centuries, specially in the Crowns of Castile and Aragon.Nowadays, the artistic historiography related to the Hispanic miniature lacks a monographic study referring to the Jews. Certain illuminated codices offer a wide repertoire of images that allows a detailed and, at the same time, broader and more comprehensive study of the image of Hebrew through the analysis of the entire corpus they treasure. Based on the number of Jews represented and their characteristics and iconographic interest, we have selected twenty-five manuscripts from the Crown of Aragon, thirteen from the Crown of Castile and five Sephardim, whose inclusion is justified by the enrichment that the analysis of their miniatures means for the iconographic comparative study with the Christian ones...
