Intercultural Europe: Cultural Diversity in the EU and the Debate on a Common European Cultural Identity

Abstract

The aim of the work is to approach the complex cultural system of the European Union through the analysis of cultural diversity within the EU and the existence of a possible common European cultural identity. This paper attempts to promote the debate on intercultural dialogue in the European Union and the actions undertaken by the European institutions to promote a common cultural identity based on plurality and diversity.El objetivo de este trabajo es hacer una aproximación al complejo sistema cultural de la Unión Europea a través del análisis de la diversidad cultural dentro de la UE y la existencia de una posible identidad cultural europea común. Se pretende así promover el debate sobre el diálogo intercultural en la Unión Europea y las acciones emprendidas por las instituciones europeas para promover una identidad cultural común basada en la pluralidad y la diversidad.
