Abstract
The main aim of this doctoral thesis is to study and analyze the development of the topics and literary style of poetry on the theme on construction theme that belongs to the cultural and religious environment of Christianity in the first centuries of Late Antiquity. This type of poetry describes the process of monumentalization that took off after the promulgation of the Edict of Milan in the Roman West and has reached us by two means of transmission: firstly, in verse inscriptions (metrical or rhythmic) which, preserved in situ or transmitted in medieval syllogisms, were part of the ornamental and iconographic programs of these new spaces of religiosity; secondly, in poetry by well-known authors belonging to the ecclesiastical hierarchy. In the works of these authors, we differentiate two groups of poems: on the one hand, those which, due to their characteristics, are susceptible to being inscriptions; on the other hand, those poems that transmit news about the architecture, but cannot be typified as inscriptions because they are inserted in a broader narrative which does not presuppose any epigraphic message. In this paper, therefore, we approach the study of both routes from the premise that they are part of the same literary genre, as we will try to prove...
