Abstract
Las encuadernaciones heráldicas son una gran fuente para la investigación, tanto del libro antiguo, como de la emblemática, donde la heráldica y la genealogía nos muestran lo que los propietarios quieren mostrar de sí mismos. En este trabajo estudiaremos una de las más famosas encuadernaciones barrocas, la del Duque de Medina de las Torres, personaje central del reinado de Felipe IV, viendo las características de
la misma y el porqué de cada una de sus partes, y al mismo tiempo veremos también otras encuadernaciones y portadas donde aparece las armas de este personaje con un diseño distinto, y explicaremos el motivo de dichas variaciones, utilizando de forma prioritaria los datos que nos aportan las portadas de libros de época.
Heraldic bindings are a great source for research, both the ancient book and the emblematic, where heraldry and genealogy show us what the owners want to show about themselves. In this work we will study one of the most famous baroque bindings, that of the Duke of Medina de las Torres, a central character of the reign of Felipe IV, seeing its characteristics and the reason for each of its parts, and at the same time we will see also other bindings and covers where the heraldry of this character appear with a different design, and we will explain the reason of these variations.
