El primer centrismo de la Transición: el Partido Popular de 1976

Abstract

Este artículo pretende estudiar una de las formaciones más destacadas del espectro centrista durante los inicios de la Transición: el Partido Popular (PP). Promovido desde el grupo Tácito, y muy pronto identificado con Pío Cabanillas y José María de Areilza, el PP supuso la primera gran iniciativa en busca de la unión de las principales ideologías del centro (democristianos, liberales y socialdemócratas), convirtiéndose en uno de los referentes y promotores de la posterior Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD). A través de esta investigación pretende analizarse el origen, vertebración y desaparición de aquel primer centrismo representado por el Partido Popular.

This article aims to study one of the most prominent political parties of the centrist spectrum during the beginning of the Transition: the Popular Party (PP). Promoted from Tacito group and very soon identified with Pío Cabanillas and José María de Areilza, the PP was the first great initiative to unify the main ideologies of the centrism (Christian-Democrats, Liberals and Social-Democrats), becoming a benchmark and one of the main promoters of the future Democratic Centre Union (UCD). Through this research, it will be analyzed the origin, structuring and disappearance of that first centrism represented by the Popular Party.
