Over the past years, Mathematical Materials Science has become an important discipline, with a significant impact both on mathematics and materials science. Modeling many properties of materials involves describing phenomena taking place in a wide range of scales, from the nanoscale up to the macroscale. One of the big challenges nowadays is to develop the tools to handle multiscale problems and understand how dynamics on one scale affect the others. Experimental, computational and theoretical advances provide a better understanding of materials, making it easier to design new materials with desired propertiesen
