La confrontación estética en el mito de Apolo y Marsias y su trascendencia en la historia del Arte

Abstract

Son muchos los simbolismos que se han ido depositando en relación con el mito de Apolo y Marsias. La historia del concurso musical se ha interpretado como una confrontación política que escondía, al mismo tiempo, una simbología mucho más reveladora relacionada con la eterna lucha entre Apolo y Dioniso. A su vez, ha sido un tema ampliamente representado a lo largo de la historia del arte. En este trabajo se pretende abordar este mito desde su dimensión teórica y desde el punto de vista de su evolución iconográfica. En un primer bloque, rastrearemos las fuentes y trazaremos un recorrido por cada una de las lecturas contenidas en esta contienda mitológica entre la flauta y la lira, tratando de plantearnos las preguntas que siguen abiertas en torno al mito y que todavía no han encontrado respuesta. En última instancia, se analizará su representación a través de una selección de obras concretas.There are many symbolisms that have been deposited in relation to the myth of Apollo and Marsias. The history of the musical contest has been interpreted as a political confrontation that hid, at the same time, a much more revealing symbology related to the eternal struggle between Apollo and Dionysus. In turn, it has been a theme widely represented throughout the history of art. In this paper we intend to approach this myth from its theoretical dimension and from the point of view of its iconographic evolution. In a first section, we will trace the sources and trace a journey through each of the readings contained in this mythological contest between the flute and the lyre, trying to raise the questions that remain open around the myth and have not yet found an answer. Ultimately, we will analyze its representation through a selection of specific works.
