Abstract
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is a hormone that participates in several physiological processes. Its actions are regulated by its binding to both specific receptors (IGF-1Rs) and binding proteins (IGFBPs) that together with the IGF-1 constitutes the IGF-1 signaling system. This system should be synchronized to anticipate cyclic environmental changes, in a functional dependence of the circadian system. The functional organization of the circadian system in vertebrates consists on networks of oscillators based on feedbacks loops of the clock genes and their proteins. The overall objective of this PhD Thesis is to analyze the possible daily variations of the IGF-1 system in oscillators of goldfish, and their dependence on environmental synchronizers. In addition, the role of the IGF-1 in the functional communication among circadian oscillators is investigated...
