Disociación archivística y pérdida de contexto en el patrimonio documental: las estampas del Quijote de Ibarra como caso de estudio

Abstract

Esta investigación parte del estudio de las estampas pertenecientes a la edición del Quijote de Ibarra, actualmente en proceso de restauración en el Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España (IPCE), dentro del Servicio de Conservación y Restauración de Patrimonio Bibliográfico, Documental y Obra Gráfica (SCRPBDOG). Estas estampas proceden del Museo Casa de Cervantes y fueron en su momento separadas del volumen original. El estudio analiza este caso concreto como punto de partida para reflexionar sobre los riesgos y consecuencias de la disociación archivística en el patrimonio bibliográfico y documental. A partir de la investigación material y contextual de las estampas, se abordará cómo la separación física de elementos pertenecientes a una obra afecta a su integridad, interpretación y conservación. Asimismo se reflexiona sobre las estrategias de gestión patrimonial que pueden aplicarse para prevenir o mitigar este tipo de situaciones.This research comes from the study of the prints belonging to the Ibarra’s edition of Don Quixote, currently undergoing restoration at the Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España (IPCE), within the Service for the Conservation and Restoration of Bibliographic, Documentary and Graphic Heritage (SCRPBDOG). These prints come from the Casa Museo de Cervantes and were separated from the original volume at some point in their history. The study analyses this specific case as a starting point for reflecting on the risks and consequences of archival dissociation in bibliographic and documentary heritage. Through the material and contextual investigation of the prints, the research examines how the physical separation of elements who belong to a work affects its integrity, interpretation and conservation. In addition, the study reflects on the heritage management strategies that can be applied to prevent or mitigate this type of situation.
