Abstract
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most complex joints in the human body. Like any other joint can suffer multiple pathologies that are grouped generically with the name temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Symptomatology of temporomandibular disorders includes, joint pain, masticatory muscle pain, limitations in range of motion, click and crepitation inTMJ. It is a frequent problem in adulthood, (20 and 40 years). However, the symptoms are increasing in children. Epidemiological studies have shown this, although in children symptoms are more moderate. In USA more there are more than 10 million children with different degrees of TMD and whereas in other countries values are more than 1/3 of the affected child population. Although the etiology of TMD is controversial, today is widely accepted that it is multifactorial. This multifactorial etiology seems clear in the adult patient but it is not clear in children because they have different morphological and functional characteristics than the adult patients...
