Abstract
This PhD dissertation offers the first comprehensive study of Johannes de Sacrobosco’s works and the critical edition of two of them: Algorismus and Quadrans. Both were composed by this insular author, professor at the University of Paris in the 13th century, along with Tractatus de sphera and Compotus. All of them are linked to the disciplines of Quadrivium studies. To date, O. Pedersen’s article (1985) is the only work which deals with Sacrobosco’s life and production. In the First Part: The Work of Sacrobosco, our main objective is to fill this lack. It begins with the author’s biography from the ancient testimonies, which had not been collected as a whole until now. Next, each of the works of the author’s corpus is analyzed, with special attention to their contents, sources, and manuscript tradition. Eventually, we present the first census that gathers the totality of testimonies found to date from the works of Sacrobosco, where more than 700 codices are included...
