El Anillo Único: influencias de la mitología nórdica en la obra de Tolkien

Abstract

En este trabajo se examinará la influencia de la mitología nórdica en la obra tolkiana a través del análisis de uno de los elementos más importantes de su "legendarium", el Anillo Único. Para ello se propone un estudio comparativo entre los textos nórdico-germanos medievales, en los que la joya adquiere un papel relevante, confrontándolos con la trama de "El Hobbit" y "El Señor de los Anillos", principalmente. Tras una presentación de las obras manejadas, se analizará la simbología que rodea al anillo en los relatos mitológicos del norte (abarcando tanto el objeto como a sus hacedores) para, en un segundo apartado, centrarse por completo en la reelaboración de dicho simbolismo por Tolkien. Todo ello tiene como fin demostrar la influencia del mito en la creación literaria del británico y comprobar la reelaboración que se produce de diversos temas míticos a lo largo del tiempo, adaptados a nuevos modos de expresión por los cuales la mitología se hace accesible a la sociedad de cada época, reactualizándose.

This project will examine the influence of Norse Mythology on Tolkien’s work through the analysis of one of the most important elements of its "legendarium", the One Ring. For this aim a comparative study between the medieval Nordic-Germanic Texts is proposed, in which the jewel acquires a relevant role, confronting them with the plot of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings", mainly. After a presentation of the works managed, the symbolism surrounding the ring will be analysed in the Northern Mythological stories (encompassing both the object and its makers) to focus entirely on the reworking of said symbolism by Tolkien in a second section. All this is intended to demonstrate the influence of myth on the literary creation of the British author and to verify the reworking that occurs on various mythical themes over time, adapted to new ways of expression by which mythology becomes accessible to society of each period, updating itself.
