Sobre lusismos y voces de origen portugués en el español paraguayo del siglo XVIII: planteamientos teóricos, dificultades y primeros resultados

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper aims to contribute to the history of Paraguayan Spanish through the analysis of the Lusisms that are used in this variety during the 18th century. After describing the main features of Spanish-Portuguese linguistic contact, some lexical items that must be considered as false Lusisms are studied, as well as other words whose usage in the 18th century Paraguayan Spanish seems to be the consequence of the Portuguese influence (true Lusisms). These true Lusisms will be classified in four different subtypes. Also their distribution in semantic fields will be analysed in order to understand in a more accurate way the importance of the Portuguese language in the lexical configuration of the 18th century Paraguayan Spanish.
