Abstract
En esta investigación abordamos el estudio de la esfera emocional de los soldados británicos que combatieron en la Primera Guerra Mundial, partiendo de la consideración de que este fue el conflicto que inauguró lo que se ha denominado guerra moderna e inició el camino hacia la guerra total que ha caracterizado los conflictos posteriores. Con el objetivo de describir y analizar las experiencias y emociones de los soldados británicos durante su periplo en la Primera Guerra Mundial, sustentamos nuestra investigación en el análisis de la correspondencia de 120 soldados británicos conservada en los archivos de Europeana 1914-1918, The National Archives y el Imperial War Museum, sumando un total de 828 cartas. Considerando que cada epístola aporta información de un escenario concreto en un tiempo determinado, abordaremos el análisis de la correspondencia desde la perspectiva de la microhistoria e historia de las emociones, lo que nos ha proporcionado una visión del conjunto de experiencias del conflicto más allá del combate en el frente occidental. Por ello, hemos organizado el análisis y el discurso obedeciendo a un orden cronológico desde el alistamiento de los soldados en el ejército hasta el final de su servicio militar. In this research we approach the study of the emotional sphere of the British soldiers who fought in the First World War, starting from the consideration that this was the conflict that inaugurated what has been called modern warfare and initiated the path towards the total war that has characterized subsequent conflicts. With the aim of describing and analyzing the experiences and emotions of British soldiers during their journey in the First World War, we based our research on the analysis of the correspondence of 120 British soldiers preserved in the archives of Europeana 1914-1918, The National Archives and the Imperial War Museum, totaling 828 letters.Considering that each epistle provides information on a specific scenario at a specific time, we will approach the analysis of the correspondence from the perspective of microhistory and history of emotions, which has provided us with a vision of the whole experience of the conflict beyond the combat on the western front. Therefore, we have organized the analysis and discourse in chronological order from the soldiers' enlistment in the army to the end of their military service. We then divided the results into three parts in order to present in an orderly fashion the events and themes described in the different scenarios in which they served during the war...
