Abstract
Taking Spanish emigration as case-study this article analyses the migration strate-gies adopted by the actors of the migration process (the migrants). Actors' decisionsare conditioned by a number of factors over which they have no control. These factorsare variables of a superior migration system. The article analyses how these variablesmay alter actors' original migration strategies, which therefore are constantly readjus-ted. Finally, individual cases are categorised according to whether the actors keep to orare forced to alter their original migration plans
