Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyze the reconstruction that Habermas accomplishes of Marx’s materialist concepion of history, which explicit purpose is to achieve more fully the goal that it has set for itself. First we study the main concepts that Habermas takes from Marxian theory, as well as his criticism to them from the distinction between work and interaction. Then we deal with the sense of reconstruction proposed by Habermas, which is based on the critical appropriation of such concepts. Finally, we question the compatibility of Habermas’ approach with the conception of Marx in his work on the critique of political economy, in order to show the irreducibility of their theoretical positions.
