Abstract
ABSTRACT: Moroccan literature is characterized by its plurality and diversity, whether at the level of its languages, themes or genres. However, one genre of this literature has not yet received the attention it deserves from translation and literary criticism. It is about prison literature or “literature of the years of lead” (1956-1999), which tried to break the silence imposed during the years of lead, generating a counter-narrative against the official discourse of the Moroccan regime. This article attempts to analyze, through the study of the recent history of Morocco from its independence in 1956 until the death of King Hassan II (1999), the genre “prison literature” from its beginnings to the present and the place it occupies in the Moroccan literary context.
