Abstract
Esta tesis estudia los Festivales Folklóricos Hispanoamericanos que se celebraron en la Alta Extremadura, con Cáceres como escenario principal, durante el periodo del “desarrollismo” de la dictadura franquista. Organizados en un principio por el Instituto de Cultura Hispánica (ICH) y el Ayuntamiento de Cáceres, a partir de 1964 serían incluidos en el Plan Nacional de Festivales de España del Ministerio de Información y Turismo (MIT). Junto con promover el turismo de la región y la “identidad” extremeña, su otro propósito esencial, como parte de los esfuerzos de la diplomacia cultural franquista, fue atraer la participación extranjera, primordialmente la latinoamericana, a su certamen de “folklore musical”. El certamen constituyó su espectáculo central, pero su programación contó también con una multiplicidad de actividades que, en conformidad con la ideología de la hispanidad, tendrían como hilo conductor la temática “hispanoamericana”...
This thesis studies the Hispanic-American Folk Festivals that were held in Upper Extremadura, with Cáceres as the main stage, during the period of “development” of the Franco dictatorship. Initially organized by the Institute of Hispanic Culture (ICH) and the City Council of Cáceres, from 1964 they would be included in the National Plan of Festivals of Spain of the Ministry of Information and Tourism (MIT). Along with promoting tourism in the region and the Extremadura “identity”, its other essential purpose, as part of the efforts of Francoist cultural diplomacy, was to attract foreign participation, primarily Latin American, to its “musical folklore” contest. The contest was its central spectacle, but its program also included a multiplicity of activities that, in accordance with the ideology of Hispanicism, would have the “Hispanic-American” theme as a common thread...
