Instinto depravado, impulso ciego, sueño loco: El antifeminismo contemporáneo en perspectiva histórica

Abstract

El feminismo, aunque el retrato dominante lo pase por alto, ha tenido que enfrentarse, de manera recurrente, a contraataques. A reacciones antifeministas orientadas a reducir a la nada el puñado de pequeñas victorias duramente cosechadas. Este ensayo pretende entender la naturaleza y la dinámica de dichas reacciones, particularmente las formulas retóricas que emplean en su lucha contra el avance de los derechos de las mujeres, para responder a la pregunta de si en la actualidad y en referencia al Estado Español, nos encontramos en un periodo semejante. Uno en el que a la sombra de la actual crisis económica, se podría estar gestando un discurso antifeminista que estaría legitimando toda una serie de medidas encaminadas a coartar los derechos de las mujeres. Analizaremos pues aquellos momentos en que los avances de la lucha feminista se han hecho más notables y por ello, las reacciones antifeministas también; sirviéndonos del marco de análisis desarrollado por Albert O. Hirschman en su obra Retóricas de la Intransigencia. E identificaremos como manifestaciones del antifeminismo contemporáneo la usurpación que la política institucional hace del lenguaje feminista, así como la creciente tendencia de determinados sectores a referirse al feminismo con el apelativo de «ideología de género».

Regardless of the fact that the dominant portrait tends to overlook it, feminism has recurrently had to confront counterattacks. Antifeminist reactions aimed at reducing the handful of small victories arduously harvested by means of the feminist struggle. This paper seeks to understand the nature and dynamics of these reactions, particularly the rhetorical formulas used in their fight against the advancement of women's rights, in order to see whether at present, and in reference to the Spanish context, we find ourselves in a similar period. One in which, in the shadows of the current economic crisis, an antifeminist discourse could be emerging and in turn providing legitimacy to a series of measures aimed at restricting the rights of women. To do so we will analyze those moments in history when the advances of the feminist struggle have become more noticeable and therefore the antifeminist reactions have done so too, making use of the analytical framework developed by Albert O. Hirschman in his book, Rhetoric of Reaction. Based on this, we will identify as manifestations of a contemporary antifeminism, firstly the usurpation that institutional politics makes of feminist language, and secondly the increasing tendency of certain sectors to refer to feminism by the epithet of "gender ideology".
