Abstract
ABSTRACT: This article is a result of the current research «Adaptation of the "Aula Internacional" series for the teaching of ELE in Spanish America», from the research area denominated Spanish as a foreign language and second language of the Instituto Caro y Cuervo (ICC). This work investigates the features that characterize the Spanish of America and suggests changes for the manuals Classroom International 1 and 2 New edition (Editorial Difusión). This paper addresses two aspects of this research. The first one, prior to the adaptation, refers to the evaluation of the potential value of «Aula» to be used as a didactic tool in Spanish as a foreign language or second language courses in Spanish American countries. The second aspect refers to the techniques applied in adaptation; to do this, a specific unit is taken, the suggested changes are registered and the adopted procedure is explicitly stated. This paper considers the evaluation of materials as a complex process and suggests that these can only be considered successful after being tested in the classroom.
