Las inscripciones mozárabes en Al-Andalus: materialidad, escritura y autorrepresentación

Abstract

El presente artículo estudia las inscripciones producidas por los mozárabes en al-Andalus, especialmente aquellos aspectos referentes a su materia, forma y escritura, muy poco tratados por la bibliografía precedente. A través de este análisis, se definen las características propias de este grupo epigráfico y de su escritura, comparándolas con las heredadas del período romano-visigodo y con las propias de la producción epigráfica de los territorios del norte peninsular. Esto ha permitido ver la peculiaridad de la producción epigráfica de los mozárabes, situándola en su contexto histórico cultural y contemplándola como un modo de autorrepresentación grupal, con un claro carácter identitario.

This paper studies the inscriptions produced by the Mozarabs in al-Andalus, especially those aspects relating to their material, external form and writing, which have been little discussed in the previous scientific literature. Through this analysis, the features of this epigraphic group and its writing are defined, comparing them with those inherited from the Roman-Visigothic period and with those characteristic of the epigraphic production of the northern territories of the Iberian Peninsula. This has enabled us to observe the peculiarity of Mozarabic epigraphic production, placing it in its historical and cultural context and contemplating it as a means of group self-representation, with a clear identity character.
