dc.description.abstractLa osteomielitis (OM) es la infección más habitual asociada a úlceras de pie diabético (UPD), generalmente se produce como consecuencia de una infección de los tejidos blandos que se propaga al hueso. Presenta una clínica variada y muchas veces las complicaciones derivadas de la diabetes, como la neuropatía sensitiva y la enfermedad arterial periférica enmascaran los signos de infección; por lo que no es sencillo diagnosticarla. En la presente revisión bibliográfica, se pretende realizar una actualización de los conocimientos de los diferentes métodos diagnósticos de la OM en UPD. La radiografía simple por lo general es la primera prueba de imagen que se ejecuta, esta prueba cuando se realiza de forma secuencial y combinada con la palpación transulcerosa de hueso tiene una sensibilidad diagnóstica elevada para diagnosticar la OM en UPD. La resonancia magnética es la prueba de imagen con mayor precisión diagnóstica para la OM en UPD y tiene especial interés en el diagnóstico diferencial con la neuroartropatía diabética de Charcot. Finalmente, según la literatura revisada la prueba de referencia para realizar el diagnóstico de la OM en UPD es el estudio histopatológico de la muestra ósea.
dc.description.abstractOsteomyelitis (OM) is the most common infection associated to diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), is usually caused by an infection of the soft tissues, that spreads to the bone. It presents a varied clinic and often complications from diabetes, such as sensory neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease mask the signs of infection, so it is not easy to diagnose. The aim of this bibliographic review is to update the knowledges of the different diagnostic methods of OM in DFU. Simple radiography is usually the first imaging test performed, this test when performed sequentially and combined with transulcer bone palpation has a high diagnostic sensitivity to diagnose OM in DFU. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most accurate diagnostic imaging test for OM in DFU and has a special interest in differential diagnosis with Charcot's diabetic neuroarthropathy. Finally, according to the reviewed literature, the reference test to make the diagnosis of OM in DFU is the histopathological study of the bone sample.
