Abstract
Las técnicas de anestesia neuroaxial han sido descritas como unas técnicas seguras y eficientes que proveen de la insensibilidad necesaria para el procedimiento quirúrgico y de una analgesia adecuada en el periodo postoperatorio. A pesar de ello, estos procedimientos no están exentos de complicaciones, siendo los relacionadas con los problemas neurológicos los que mayor morbimortalidad presentan, a pesar de su baja incidencia. Tanto el síndrome de cauda equina como el síndrome de irritación radicular transitorio son complicaciones raras, pero aún prevalentes del bloqueo espinal subaracnoideo, mientras que su causa exacta sigue sin estar clara. Todas las hipótesis propuestas anteriormente para intentar dar respuesta a su aparición han ido perdiendo apoyo, por lo que se hace perentorio encontrar una causa que lo justifique y, si es posible, pueda evitar este tipo de complicaciones que podrían llegar a ser tan limitantes para los pacientes...
Neuraxial anesthesia techniques have been described as safe and efficient techniques that provide the necessary insensitivity for the surgical procedure and adequate analgesia in the postoperative period. Despite this, these procedures are not exempt from complications, with those related to neurological problems being the ones with the highest morbidity and mortality, despite their low incidence. Both cauda equina syndrome and transient root irritation syndrome are rare but still prevalent complications of subarachnoid spinal block, while their exact cause remains unclear. All the hypotheses previously proposed to try to respond to its appearance have been losing support, so it is imperative to find a cause that justifies it and, if possible, can avoid this type of complications that could become so limiting for patients...
