Geología e Hidrogeología de los asentamientos saharauis en la cuenca de Tindouf (Argelia y Sáhara Occidental)

Abstract

Desde hace 45 años más de 170.000 personas sobreviven en las cercanías de la ciudad argelina de Tindouf, formando los campamentos de refugiados más antiguos del mundo y soportando unas condiciones climáticas extremas. Las elevadas temperaturas (hasta 50 °C) y las escasas precipitaciones (55 mm/año)producen un severo problema de abundancia de agua. Tanto la población civil del oeste de Argelia como los refugiados saharauis se abastecen de aguas subterráneas captadas por los sondeos y pozos del desierto. En este contexto, el conocimiento de la geología, hidrogeología y la cantidad y calidad del agua subterránea es vital para garantizar la supervivencia de los refugiados...For 45 years, in the vicinity of the Algerian city of Tindouf, more than170.000 people survive in the most inhospitable area of the desert. In the oldest refugee camps in the world, they endure extreme weather conditions. The high temperatures (up to 48 °C) and scarce rainfall (55 mm/year) produce a severe problem of water shortage. Both the civilian population of western Algeria and the Sahrawi refugees are supplied with groundwater drawn from the water bores and wells of the desert.
