La poesía de circunstancias del madrileño Juan Álvarez Gato

Abstract

El presente trabajo de investigación se centra en la figura del escritor madrileño Juan Álvarez Gato y su producción poética de circunstancias, la cual se enmarca dentro de la poesía de cancionero. Debido al abandono sufrido por el paso del tiempo y al olvido que la mayoría de los expertos en esta materia han ejercido sobre la figura y labor de dicho autor, con este estudio se pretende recuperar el valor literario que le ha sido negado durante centurias comparando, por un lado, su producción circunstancial con la de otros grandes poetas de su tiempo y, por el otro, poniendo de manifiesto su evolución desde la frivolidad amorosa y la reivindicación política hasta la honda reflexión que presentan sus composiciones morales.

The present research work is centred on the figure of Juan Álvarez Gato and his circumstantial poetry production, which is classified as chansonnier poetry. Owing to the abandon suffered as a result of the passing of time and the active neglect shown, by the majority of experts in the material, to the figure and work of aforesaid author, with this study it is intended to recover the literary value which has been denied him for centuries by comparing both, his production of circumstantial poetry with that of other great poets of the time, and also making evident his evolution from romantic frivolity and political claims to the deep reflection presented in his moral compositions.
