Abstract
The use of papier-mâché, the clastic or removable model system and in series anatomical model production technique developed by Louis Thomas Jérôme Auzoux (1797-1880) resulted in a major change in the evolution of anatomical models. Since the mid-nineteenth century this had a rapid and significant impact in the teaching of human anatomy, comparative anatomy and biology. The publication discusses the genesis of this type of model, the reasons for its wide dissemination and the contribution that occured also in veterinary education. Also describes the different types of Auzoux’s veterinary models, or interesting models from the veterinary point of view, and their main application. Educational advantages are analyzed and their impact on veterinary teaching. In a final section are presented some considerations about the current existing patrimonial sets, its conservation and dissemination aspects and some information and initiatives derived from the complutense collection of Auzoux’s veterinary models
