Carteles cinematográficos de René Magritte: apuntes estéticos e ideológicos en su representación del wéstern Incidente en Ox-Bow

Abstract

El artículo se centra en abordar la producción artística, básicamente comercial, realizada por René Magritte en relación con el cine, atendiendo a los carteles diseñados en dos etapas, primero como obras netamente publicitarias, anónimas o firmadas con pseudónimo, poco difundidas y en algunos casos de compleja atribución, y posteriormente, después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, como invitaciones para eventos especiales. Además del análisis de las obras desde un planteamiento histórico y estético, el artículo se centra específicamente en el caso de estudio de sus diseños y su cartel definitivo para la proyección del wéstern norteamericano Incidente en Ox-Bow (The Ox-Bow Incident, William A. Wellman, 1943), poniendo en relación el discurso metafórico antifascista del filme con la representación llevada a cabo por Magritte, inspirada por la estética de la película.

The article addresses the basically commercial artistic production carried out by René Magritte in relation to Cinema, paying special attention to the film posters designed in two stages: firstly purely as advertising, signed either anonymously or pseudonymously, with scant distribution and in some cases, complex attribution. Later, after the Second World War, the posters were used as invitations for special cinematographic events. In addition to the analysis of the works focusing on some posters from a historical and aesthetic contextual ap-proach, the article concentrates specifically on the case study of their designs and the final poster for the projection of the American western The Ox-Bow Incident (William A. Wellman, 1943), linking the metaphorical anti-fascist discourse in the film with the representation executed by Magritte, and inspired by the aesthetics of the film.
