La música en la Real Cámara durante el reinado de Fernando VI y María Bárbara de Braganza (1746-1759)

Abstract

Esta tesis tiene como objeto de estudio la música en la Real Cámara durante el reinado de Fernando VI y María Bárbara de Braganza. De los distintos ámbitos en los que se desarrolla la música cortesana durante este reinado se conoce la actividad musical de los oficios religiosos de la Real Capilla, así como la música del Real Teatro que, bajo la dirección de Carlo Broschi Farinelli, se realizó en los palacios del Buen Retiro y Aranjuez. Sin embargo, la actividad musical que se llevaba a cabo en el entorno más privado de los reyes, la Real Cámara, apenas ha sido abordada. En esta tesis doctoral se ofrece un panorama global de la música realizada en la cámara desde diversas perspectivas: el estudio institucional de los músicos de cámara, el repertorio interpretado y la frecuencia de esta actividad. La figura de la reina María Bárbara es fundamental para comprender la práctica musical de este reinado. Su pasión por la música hizo posible que esta actividad alcanzara un esplendor inimaginable, reflejado en las majestuosas representaciones del Real Teatro. En el contexto más íntimo de la Real Cámara la música se desarrollaba alejada del protocolo público cortesano para deleite de unos pocos. Ambas actividades, la del teatro y la de la cámara, estuvieron estrechamente relacionadas formando un tándem musical que se mantuvo todo el periodo...The subject of study of this thesis is the study of the music in the Royal Chamber during the reign of Ferdinand VI and Maria Barbara de Braganza. From the different spheres in which court music developed during this reign, we know of the musical activity of the religious services of the Royal Chapel, as well as the music of the Royal Theatre which, under the direction of Carlo Broschi Farinelli, was performed in the palaces of Buen Retiro and Aranjuez. However, the musical activity that took place in the kings' most private environment, the Royal Chamber, has scarcely been addressed. This doctoral thesis offers an overview of the music performed in the chamber from different perspectives: the institutional study of chamber musicians, the repertoire played and the frequency of this activity.The figure of Queen Maria Barbara is fundamental to understand the musical practice of this reign. Her passion for music made it possible for this activity to reach an unimaginable splendour, as shown in the majestic performances at the Royal Theatre. In the more intimate context of the Royal Chamber, music was performed away from courtly public protocol to the delight of a few.
