Abstract
África ha sido representada en la cinematografía occidental desde los inicios del propio cine. Esta representación ha recibido una fuerte influencia de la ciencia, la literatura, el arte y los medios de comunicación occidentales durante siglos. Se entiende, por tanto, que las representaciones son fruto de una intertextualidad que, sobre todo en lo que respecta a los negroafricanos, está cargado de negatividad. Esta negatividad ha sido contrarrestada, en los últimos años, con determinadas producciones cinematográficas que intentan ofrecer una imagen positiva tanto de África como del negroafricano. No obstante, estas producciones cinematográficas tienen que luchar contra más de un siglo de representación del negroafricano en el cine. Además, tienen que contrarrestar la influencia de otra vertiente de cine occidental sobre África vinculada a la representación de conflictos africanos, iniciado a principios del siglo XXI. Esta formaría parte de lo que se ha denominado Nueva Ola que, si bien es más sutil con los estereotipos y las negatividades respecto al continente africano, continúa teniendo una intertextualidad considerable...
Africa has been represented in the Western cinema since the inception of the cinematography itself. This representation has received a strong influence by the Western science, literature, art and media during centuries. Therefore, it is understood that the representations stem from intertextuality, predominantly carrying negative connotations for black Africans. In recent years, efforts have been made through certain films to diminish this negativity, aiming to present a positive perception of the Africa continent and its people. However, these films have been fighting against the perception of the black Africans in the cinema for over a century. In addition, these films must challenge the impact of another trend in West cinematography about Africa depicting Africa, particularly associated with the portrayal of African conflicts that emerged in the early 21st century. This narrative is part of the so-called New Wave, characterized by a more subtle approach to stereotypes and negativity regarding the Africa continent, yet it retains a noticeable intertextuality...
