EL Libro del caballero Zifar: un panorama bibliográfico

Abstract

Pocos textos, dentro de la historia literaria española, presentan más problemas e incógnitas, a la vez que despiertan mayor interés, que el Libro del caballero Zifar. La aparición en el siglo XIV de este primer libro de caballerías, si puede llamarse así, resulta extraña e innovadora debido a las particularidades narrativas y estructurales que presenta. La fusión de géneros, el uso de las fuentes y la estructura compuesta hacen de éste un testimonio único e invaluable de la evolución literaria de la península ibérica. La autoría anónima, las diversas teorías sobre sobre la hipotética traducción, la comunión entre culturas y su función política y social convierten al Zifar en una lectura obligada para la comprensión de la literatura española y caballeresca.Few texts, within the Spanish literary history, show more problems and uncertainties, while stimulating the interest of their study, like el Libro del caballero Zifar. The appearance in XIV century of this first book of chivalry, if you can call it that, is strange and innovative because of the narrative and structural peculiarities of it. The fusion of literary genres, the usage of sources and composite structure make this a unique and invaluable testimony of literary evolution in the Iberian Peninsula. The anonymous authorship, the various theories about the hypothetical translation, the communion of cultures and the political and social function turn the Zifar a must read for understanding the Spanish and chivalric literature.
