¿Para qué sirven los Archivos Históricos Provinciales?

Abstract

Esta ponencia tiene como objetivo, por un lado, estudiar el papel que han jugado y juegan los Archivos Históricos Provinciales (AHP) dentro de los sistemas archivísticos españoles, y por otro proponer dos posibles líneas de actuación para asegurar que, a medio o largo plazo, sigan siendo útiles a la sociedad. Dentro del primer objetivo, se analiza su número, sus funciones de acuerdo con la legislación tanto estatal como autonómica, y dos aspectos concretos como son el volumen de documentación que conservan y su participación en los órganos de valoración documental. Respecto al segundo objetivo, se plantea una doble vía de actuación: la profundización en su papel cultural y la mejora de la atención a los fondos documentales que no proceden de organismos oficiales.The first goal of this paper is studying the Provincial Historical Archives’ role inside the Spanish archival systems; the second goal is to propose two possible ways of action to ensure they will remain useful to society in the medium or long term. For the first goal, their number, functions according both the state and regional legislation and two specific aspects are analyzed, as they are the volume of documentation stocked and their participation on in the document assessment bodies. Regarding the second goal, there is a double course of action: the deepening in their cultural role and the improvement of the attention to fonds not coming from the official bodies.
