La educación de las mujeres espartanas

Abstract

La educación de las mujeres espartanas es una tesis doctoral en la que se examinan los modelos educativos que recibían las jóvenes durante el arcaísmo y la época clásica en el contexto de una sociedad aparentemente muy particular en el contexto griego como es la espartana.Los objetivos de esta tesis son los siguientes. Primeramente, se pretende establecer una evolución y caracterización de la educación femenina espartana, así como explicar las razones por las que las fuentes definen esta y otras instituciones en función de un supuesto inmovilismo. Asimismo, se busca analizar esta realidad dentro del contexto educativo lacedemonio general, es decir, estableciendo comparaciones con la educación de los varones para así percibir mejor las especificidades de la femenina. Este objetivo se divide, a su vez, en dos. Por una parte, se pretende caracterizar mejor el papel de la mujer espartana en su comunidad, atendiendo a su función como madre y educadora. Por otro lado, se trata de definir los géneros en la juventud, es decir, los elementos que identifican a los niños y jóvenes de ambos géneros, aunque más específicamente a las muchachas. Esto se percibe mejor en los rituales que en otras actividades porque los espartanos, como otras comunidades griegas, construían la mayoría de ritos y leyendas etiológicas en función del objetivo final de los jóvenes que consistía en alcanzar el estatus definitivo de ciudadano adulto o de madre de futuros ciudadanos. No obstante, también se pretende profundizar mucho más en otras funciones de los ritos y santuarios adscritos a estos para ver cómo se integran las narraciones que explican el tránsito a la vida adulta de los jóvenes en las construcciones mnemohistóricas de una polis que enfatizó mucho las historias sobre su origen y sus instituciones relacionadas con la creación de una identidad étnica bien definida...

The education of Spartan women is a thesis in which the author examines the educational models received by young women during archaism and the classical period in an allegedly very particular society within the Greek context as the Spartan one.The objectives of this thesis are the following. Firstly, it is intended to establish an evolution and characterization of the Spartan female education, as well as to explain the reasons why the sources define this and other institutions as based on a supposed immobility. Likewise, it seeks to analyse this reality within the Lacedaemonian educational context, that is, establishing comparisons with the male education in order to better improve the perception of the female specificities. This objective is divided into two. On the one hand, it aims to better characterize the role of Spartan women within their community, considering their role as mothers and educators. On the other hand, it is about defining genders in youth, that is, the elements that identify children and young people of both genders, though more specifically girls. This is better perceived in rituals than in any other activities since Spartans, like any other Greek community, constructed the majority of etiological legends and rites in terms of the ultimate goal of the young people: to reach the final status of adult citizen or mother of future citizens. Nevertheless, it also seeks to go much deeper into other functions of the rites and sanctuaries attached to the youth in order to see how the narratives that explain the transition to adulthood are part of the mnemo-historical constructions of a polis that largely emphasized everything about its origin and institutions related to the creation of a well-defined ethnic identity...
