Abstract
The sense of belonging in educational and university settings is essential to ensure students' mental health, and well-being and prevent dropout. This study presents the process of creation and validation of the Scale of Sense of Belonging to the University in Spain (ESPU). The instrument was applied to 812 students from different faculties of a Spanish university. The results showed a structure of ten items and three factors (social integration, teacher perception and pride), with an adequate level of reliability (ω=.86). The CFA confirmed the structure obtained in the EFA and the instrument was considered invariant to students’ gender. It is recommended the study be replicated with random samples from various Spanish universities to guarantee the heterogeneity of the sample and thus validate the scale in the Spanish population.
