Abstract
The study deals with the presence of volcanic racks interstratified within the Jurassic carbonate series of the Northern zone of the province of Valencia (Alcublas area), whose age has been determined as belonging to the Early Bajocian. The established fact of the existence of volcanisme of similar age within large sections of the Bética range (Subbético) suggesst the presence during the early times of the Middle Jurassic period, of a markedly intense stretching interval. Moreover the possible silicic emanations occuring during the volcanic process might have been responsible for the presence of silex within the Bajocian formations of a wide area.
