This doctoral thesis examines the use of the concept of “peace” as a central pillar of the political strategy of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) between 1947 and 1964. It argues that peace became an effective propaganda tool against Francisco Franco’s dictatorship. The PCE thus developed a political discourse grounded in the values of national sovereignty, freedom, peace, and democracy, reinterpreted within its ideological framework, which proved essential for ensuring its survival in the complex context of the Cold War. This study delves into the party’s political evolution, asserting that the conceptualization of peace established the PCE as a leading force in the anti-francoist resistance while contributing to the construction of a long-lasting discourse in the history of the Spanish left, linked to the global dynamics of the Cold War...
