Rivière Ríos, Henar. "Neo-Dada in der Musik". In 'The Lunatics are on the loose...' European Fluxus Festivals 1962-1977, edited by P. Stegmann. Potsdam, Down With Art! Verlag, 2012, pp. 29-42.

Abstract

This article presents the first comprehensive reconstruction of one of the two proto-Fluxus concerts held in Germany in 1962, which served as a direct precedent to the inaugural Fluxus Festival in Wiesbaden. Drawing on research from major archives—including Archive Sohm (Staatsgalerie Stuttgart)—as well as interviews with various artists and witnesses, such as Jed Curtis, Dieter Schnebel, and Mercedes Guardado, this paper not only reconstructs the evening’s program but also examines the West German cultural landscape and artistic scene that made it possible, with particular focus on the roles of Nam June Paik, George Maciunas, and Jean-Pierre Wilhelm.
