La idea de Universidad en el magisterio pontificio de Benedicto XVI

Abstract

La presente investigación estudia “La idea de Universidad en el Magisterio Pontificio de Benedicto XVI”. Ratzinger / Benedicto XVI es uno de los intelectuales de referencia en el tema, no solo por su cantidad de publicaciones o menciones de otras universidades, sino por la profundidad con que lo ha tratado, el dominio de los clásicos y fuentes originales, su apertura y honestidad investigadora y la reflexión sobre su propia experiencia docente y universitaria. Tras un primer análisis empírico de los textos y un acercamiento a su semblanza y fuentes (partes I y II), la investigación se centra en lo que el mismo Benedicto califica de «emergencia educativa» (parte III) tanto por sus raíces antropológicas (un falso concepto de autonomía del hombre) como culturales (el escepticismo y el relativismo). La última parte (IV) sistematiza la idea de Universidad, su misión y razón de ser. Ensan-char los horizontes de la racionalidad es, sin duda, lo más nuclear de la visión de Ratzinger/Benedicto XVI y la clave de bóveda de su idea de Universidad. Se trata de ampliar la razón en diálogo con la fe, frente a las patologías del fideísmo que menosprecia la razón, o del racio-nalismo, que hace lo mismo con la fe. La Universidad es el encuentro discursivo entre personas que buscan cooperativamente la verdad y que cultivan su humanidad en toda su amplitud: artes ad humanitatem. Este ethos discursivo propio de la Universidad requiere poner en el centro a la verdad y a la persona, lo cual crea una atmósfera de confianza, cordialidad, diálogo y tolerancia, y una continua exigencia de madurar la misión de la Universidad desde la formación integral, la relación educativa, la pedagogía, la vocación del profesorado, la responsabilidad de los alumnos y el compromiso con la realidad social.

This research project analyzes "The idea of the University in the Magisterium of Benedict XVI". Ratzinger/Benedict XVI is one of the leading experts on the subject of the university, not only because of his numerous publications or his great reputation at many universities, but for the depth with which he has analyzed the uni-versity, his mastery of classical and original sources, the openness and integrity of his research and his introspective attitude towards his own teaching and university experience. After an initial textual and statistical ana-lysis of the bibliography and a review of his life and sources (Parts I and II), the research focuses on what Benedict calls an “educational emergency” (Part III), both for its anthropological roots (a false concept of the autonomy of man), and cultural (skepticism and relativism). The last part (IV) systematizes the idea of the university, its mission and raison d'etre. To broaden the horizons of rationality is no doubt at the core of Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s vision and the cornerstone of his idea of the University. It seeks to expand the concept of reason through a dialogue with faith, against the pathologies of fideism (which despises reason) and rationalism (which does the same with faith). The concept of the university implies a community of people who cooperatively seek the truth and who cultivate their humanity in its fullness: artes ad humanitatem. This properly rational ethos of the University requires putting at its center both truth and the person, so as to create an atmosphere of trust, cordiality, dialogue and tolerance; as well as to encourage a continuous demand to mature the mission of the University by way of personal formation, educational relationships, pedagogical method, the vocation of teachers, student responsibility, and the university’s commitment to the social order.
