Abstract
This doctoral thesis discusses love and how it is linked to political thought. In view of the longevity of both, the road followed has been a long one. From Asia Minor in the eighth century B.C. to Chicago in the first decades of the third millennium, we have examined a series of crystallizations of love linked to politics: philía in Greece, ágape in Christianity and fraternité in revolutionary thought. The subject deserves an extended explanation. In the first chapter, we will see that philía is a common presence on the pages of several of the great authors of the time who are thinking about politics. Therefore, the question that has guided us has been, why is she, philía, the protagonist and not érōs, storge, or the ágape itself? In this chapter we will visit many areas in which philía has operated to discover what qualities later granted it a key role in the politics of the polis...
