Una nueva Edición Crítica de Menandro Rétor

Abstract

La presente tesis doctoral aborda el desarrollo de una investigación filológica en la que hemos estado trabajando a lo largo de los últimos cinco años y cuyo objetivo final ha sido la realización de una nueva edición crítica del rétor Menandro. Se trata del texto griego de dos Tratados de retórica epidíctica, compuestos entre la segunda mitad del siglo III y principios del siglo IV d.C., atribuidos a Menandro, a pesar de los problemas de autoría que siempre se han manifestado y en los cuales no nos hemos involucrado. Ello nos ha permitido un contacto directo con las tareas básicas en crítica textual griega (recensio, collatio, emendatio y editio critica), que desarrollamos en profundidad como metodología principal de nuestro trabajo. En un terreno más concreto, esta nueva edición supone la modificación de las tesis tradicionales de N. Wilson y D. Russell, gracias a la incorporación de todos los manuscritos recentiores no utilizados por ellos en su todavía imprescindible edición de Oxford, 1981, pues parece fundamental el testimonio de esos manuscritos recentiores, poco o nada utilizados por los editores oxonienses, por considerarlos derivados de P (Parisinus1741, del s. X). Los trabajos sobre este tema aparecidos en los últimos años, fundamentalmente, la tesis doctoral de Ares Mateos (2002) y los trabajos de Hernández Muñoz (2001, 2007, 2013 a, 2013 b y 2017), director también de nuestra tesis, sugieren que estos recentiores, entre los que se incluyen varios conservados en bibliotecas españolas, son textualmente más importantes de lo que se creía...

The following doctoral thesis presents the development of a philological investigation on which we have been working for the last five years and whose main aim has been the realization of a new critical edition of Menander Rhetor. Is it the Greek text of two treatises on epidictic rhetoric, written between the second half of the III century and the beginnings of the IVcentury, attributed to this rhetor (III century), despite the authorship’s problems which have appeared and in which we have not taken part. This has allowed us a direct contact with the primary tasks in Greek textual criticism (recensio, collatio, emendatio and editio critica), on which we have worked deeply as our main methodology in our piece of work. This new edition, in particular, means changing the traditional theories defended by N. Wilson and D. Russell, regarding all the recentiores manuscripts that have now been incorporated, but were not used by them in their still essential 1981 Oxford edition, since it seems to be fundamental the recentiores manuscripts’s testimony, which where barely used or not used at all by the Oxonian editors by considering them a derivate of P (Parisinus 1741, from the X century). The pieces of work on this subjec twhich have been written in the last years and so far, mainly E. Ares’ PhD(2002) and Dr. Hernández’s papers (2001, 2007, 2013 a, 2013 b and2017), our thesis director, suggest these recentiores, among which we can find two Hispanic ones, are more important than what was thought. Based on Eduardo Ares’ PhD, we have collated new manuscripts he did not check and we have added all the comments on the text, published in critical reviews, and we have added too philologists’ conjectures...
