Raza y clase en el marxismo afrocaribeño de Walter Rodney

Abstract

Walter Rodney fue un militante e intelectual marxista guyanés y una de las figuras más relevantes del marxismo afrocaribeño en el siglo XX. Líder prominente del movimiento del Black Power en Jamaica, también militó en el movimiento antirracista y panafricanista en Inglaterra, Tanzania y su Guyana natal, donde finalmente fue asesinado en 1980 por su activismo. En este texto se analiza cómo, desde la perspectiva de la economía política marxista, realiza un análisis sociohistórico de la íntima relación entre raza y clase en el desarrollo del capitalismo, poniendo especial énfasis en la investigación de los contextos que le afectaban personalmente: África y el Caribe.

Abstract Walter Rodney was a Guyanese Marxist militant and intellectual, one of the most important figures of Afro-Caribbean Marxism in the 20th century. A prominent leader of the Black Power movement in Jamaica, he was also active in the anti-racist and pan-African movement in England, Tanzania and his native Guyana, where he was eventually assassinated in 1981 for his activism. This text analyzes how, from the perspective of Marxist political economy, he carries out a sociohistorical analysis of the intimate relationship between race and class in the development of capitalism, placing special emphasis on the investigation of the contexts that affected him personally: Africa and the Caribbean.
