Funciones discursivas de los enunciados sentenciosos en «Papéis Avulsos» (1882) de Machado de Assis (1839-1908)

Abstract

RESUMEN: Diversos son los enunciados breves y sentenciosos, designados también como «paremias», que conforman el repertorio de unidades fraseológicas utilizadas por el escritor brasileño Machado de Assis (1839-1908) en su obra «Papéis Avulsos» (1882). Nuestro objetivo en este estudio es verificar la importancia de los enunciados sentenciosos en el desarrollo de sus textos a través del análisis de las funciones que las paremias clásicas o populares, como el refrán y la frase proverbial, desempeñan en los cuentos «O Alienista» y «Teoria do Medalhão», de la obra mencionada. Nos basaremos en los fundamentos de Alberto Zuluaga (1997), que parte de la división de las funciones de las unidades fraseológicas en textos literarios en dos grupos: funciones inherentes, constituidas por la función textual fraseológica básica, función connotativa o evocatoria, función icónica y función lúdico-poética; y no inherentes, formadas por el proceso de «desautomatización», por las funciones de composición o estructuración de los elementos narrativos y por las funciones semántico-estilísticas.ABSTRACT: There are diverse brief and judgmental statements, also named «paremias», which form the index of phraseologic units used by the Brazilian author Machado de Assis in his short stories compliation entitled «Papéis Avulsos». The aim of this article is to verify the importance of judgmental statements in the configuration of these texts through the analysis of functions that classic or popular paremias, such as proverbs and proverbial sentences, perform in the short stories «O Alienista» and «Teoria do Medalhão», from the aforementioned work. This research is based on the fundaments by Alberto Zuloaga (1997), that divides the funcions of phraseologic units in literary texts in two groups: inherent functions, formed by the basic textual phraseologic function, the connotative or evocative function, the iconic function and the ludic-poetic function; and non-inherent, formed by the process of «de-automation», by the functions of composition or structuring of narrative elements and semantic-stylistic functions.
