Abstract
The last few years have witnessed the increasingly common relationship between art and the economy. Zombie Formalism, an artistic movement that had its golden years between 2011 and 2014, is the best example of how works of art are conceived as a market asset with which to diversify one's investment portfolio. In this sense, the movement has to be analysed more in economic terms than in its artistic sense, as this is what is truly interesting and differentiates it from other parallel movements. The selected artists —at the time emerging— were in a certain sense exploited by the mercantile interests of collectors who speculated with their works at auctions, giving rise to the creation of an economic bubble in the art market, similar to the one that had taken place in previous years in the real estate sector. Like all bubbles, this one ended up bursting in 2014. Through the study of the economic framework and the characteristics of the trend, it will be possible to glimpse the process of the creation of the bubble, as well as all the factors that influenced its development.
