Abstract
The notable increase in gaming establishments in the city of Madrid could lead to an increase in socioeconomic and health problems in the population. Furthermore, the fact that gambling venues are often located next to schools and in lower-income areas could aggravate the problem of gambling in vulnerable sectors of the population: young and with low income. The aim is to carry out a spatial econometrics analysis on the accessibility of secondary and high school students to gambling establishments, in addition to studying the role of income as a socio-demographic variable that may influence the location of gambling houses. With this geographic study, we will obtain if the gaming establishments are really located, on a massive scale, in disadvantaged neighborhoods with the lowest per-capita income in the city (hypothesis 1), as well as in places close to educational centers, specifically secondary schools (hypothesis 2).
